Train Cross-Dock Service
Providing seamless multimodal transportation services combining trucks and rail
We promote rail transportation as a countermeasure to the truck driver shortage and rising costs that followed Japan’s work style reform legislation, ensuring stable freight transportation. This also helps in solving issues such as reducing CO2 emissions caused by freight trucks and supports modal shift initiatives to transition to transportation methods with lower environmental impact.
-
POINT1
Rail freight facilitates stable transportation while reducing environmental impact. Freight trains can be coupled with up to a maximum of 26 cars, allowing them to carry the same amount of cargo as around 65 ten-ton trucks. This also contributes to reductions to CO2 emissions.
-
POINT2
Cargo can be transferred into rail containers at the KONOIKE Group’s facility located within the Tokyo Freight Terminal operated by Japan Freight Railway Company.
-
POINT3
Our services make it possible for customers for whom rail transportation had been too difficult due to a lack of freight terminals nearby to utilize rail logistics services.
-
Achieving Stable Transportation
A lack of drivers is a serious challenge currently facing long-distance freight by truck. With the train cross-dock service, cargo is collected by truck, while the trunk-line stage of the long-distance transportation (about 500km one-way) is carried out by rail, achieving a stable transportation framework. A freight train can be coupled to a maximum of 26 cars, allowing for the transportation of cargo equivalent to the capacity of 65 ten-ton tucks in a single trip.
-
Transshipment Facility Directly Connected to Tokyo Freight Terminal
Cargo is transferred into rail containers at the Tokyo Rail Gate Sales Office, KONOIKE Group’s modal-shift hub. The facility is equipped with forklifts, such as slip-sheet and multi-load handlers, which are able to handle a variety of cargo, ensuring seamless transportation from truck to rail.
-
Expanding the Serviceable Range of Rail Transportation
Previously, rail transportation was primarily used only when there was a freight terminal within 30km of the point of origin, meaning the serviceable range was very limited. With the train cross-dock service, trucks are organized and cargo is collected through Trancom’s freight-matching network, servicing locations within 300-400km of the freight terminal, and greatly expanding the serviceable freight range.
-
CO₂ Emission Reduction
Rail transportation produces approximately one-tenth the CO₂ emissions of commercial trucks per unit of cargo, and of all methods of transportation, has the least impact on the environment. The combination of truck and rail transportation contributes to reductions in CO₂ emissions.
