Finished automobiles shipped by rail in India
We have started shipping automobiles by rail in India
In March 2019, we started an AFTO (Automobile Freight Train Operator) for automobiles in India. As the automobile market continues to expand in India, we have started a business for shipping finished automobiles by rail, which is environmentally friendly and enables excellent operation control. Dedicated Konoike cars for shipping automobiles are used for north-south routes in India, and we currently operate regular trains between Delhi and Bengaluru (previously called Bangalore) and Chennai in the south. Looking ahead, we will expand our network throughout India, according to the needs of automobile manufacturers.
-
POINT1
We can ship large volumes
Due to revised regulations regarding the maximum length of trailers used for shipping, only eight vehicles can now be transported by trailer. By switching to rail, we can transport about 300 vehicles with 27 two-level cars per train.
-
POINT2
Reducing driver and delivery route management
Shipping by rail carries less risk of failure, accidents, and traffic jams compared to trailer shipping, which means there is no concern about major delays and damage to cars, and also no need to manage drivers and delivery routes.
-
POINT3
Promoting a modal shift
Because shipping by rail emits less exhaust gases that cause air pollution compared to trailer shipping, we can advocate and help implement a modal shift within India.
-
High-quality services
Dedicated Konoike staff oversee the various tasks of cargo handling to ensure high-quality services are provided.
-
High level of safety
All of our cars are equipped with GPS to enable traceability with a cargo tracking service. Enhanced locking systems also ensure security and help prevent theft.
-
Economies of scale
Because we can transport about 300 vehicles at once, we can reduce costs compared to shipping by trailer. We can handle everything needed for shipping, from the first to the last mile.
-
Modal shift for the environment
Shipping by rail enables CO2 emissions to be reduced. The Indian government has announced a target of reducing per capita greenhouse gas emissions by 33 to 35% of 2005 levels by the year 2030.
